Jordan Burroughs, an Olympic gold medalist and wrestling icon, is preparing for his debut with Real American Freestyle and reflecting on what the league represents for aging competitors. During an appearance on “Fox & Friends,” the 38-year-old discussed his entry into RAF as the organization approaches its first-year anniversary on Fox Nation, demonstrating signature wrestling techniques while analyzing the sport’s evolution.
The league has created an unconventional pathway for wrestlers past their competitive prime, Burroughs explained. At an age when most elite grapplers have retired from international competition, RAF has extended his career prospects at a stage when traditional opportunities typically cease. He emphasized that the organization’s commitment to sustainability distinguishes it from numerous failed professional wrestling ventures of the past.
Burroughs highlighted a critical gap in wrestling’s career structure that RAF addresses. While practitioners begin training as children and compete through college, the sport historically offered few options for post-collegiate athletes seeking to maintain professional competition. Burroughs noted the contrast with other martial arts disciplines like jiu-jitsu, where competitors regularly extend their careers into their 30s and 40s.
His competitive credentials span multiple decades and prestigious platforms. Burroughs captured two national titles with Nebraska before winning gold in the men’s 74-kilogram freestyle division at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. He has also secured six world championship titles, three Pan American Games gold medals, and holds the U.S. record for combined World and Olympic gold medals with seven total.
Burroughs will compete in Cleveland on August 22 for RAF 12, available exclusively through Fox Nation subscription streaming service.
