Kelly Clarkson disclosed during her final Las Vegas performance Saturday that her two children are prohibited from viewing her 2003 musical comedy film “From Justin to Kelly.” The 44-year-old performer told the audience she made the decision to shield daughter River Rose, 12, and son Remington, 10, from the project, which she described with candid disdain.
Clarkson attributed her participation in the film to contractual obligations rather than artistic choice. She explained to concertgoers that winning the inaugural “American Idol” season came with an unexpected requirement to star in a motion picture, an arrangement she said felt counterintuitive to her career aspirations at the time.
The singer starred opposite Justin Guarini, the season one runner-up, in the musical that premiered in 2003 following her “American Idol” victory. The storyline centered on two characters who meet during spring break and develop a romantic connection, with production beginning shortly after her competition win.
When a fan defended the film’s merits, Clarkson acknowledged the supporter was viewing it “with loving eyes” before offering her unvarnished assessment of the work. She credited the musical aspects of the project as the sole redeeming element, while maintaining her overall negative perspective on the finished product.
