The New York Police Department announced plans to station 700 officers throughout Manhattan’s Inwood and Washington Heights neighborhoods in response to online posts calling for another “Dyckman takeover” event. The heightened police presence represents a direct response to escalating concerns about public safety in the area following recent incidents of violence and property destruction.
The deployment comes just seven days after the Dominican Day Parade was followed by a surge in criminal activity, including a fatal stabbing, widespread vandalism, and violent confrontations in the same neighborhoods. Law enforcement officials are taking the social media threat seriously and aim to prevent any repeat of those incidents.
The “Dyckman takeover” references organized street events that have historically drawn large crowds and created conditions conducive to violence and destruction of property. City officials have not disclosed specific details about the social media post but confirmed that the threat assessment warranted the significant police mobilization.
