The Carolina Panthers enter 2026 seeking to build on last year’s unexpected playoff appearance while establishing themselves as legitimate contenders in the NFC South. Head coach Dave Canales begins his third season leading the franchise, while quarterback Bryce Young faces a make-or-break fourth campaign that could determine his future in Charlotte and potentially earn him a long-term contract extension.
Carolina’s 2025 postseason berth marked the franchise’s first playoff appearance since 2017, accomplished despite an 8-9 regular-season record in a weak division. The Panthers’ inconsistency was evident throughout the year: they dropped their first two and final two games while compiling an 8-5 record in between. Their season ended in a narrow playoff loss to the Los Angeles Rams in which the defense couldn’t secure the necessary stops.
The organization addressed defensive needs by signing edge rusher Jaelan Phillips while reinforcing the offensive line with additional depth. Running back Jonathan Brooks provides dual-threat capability when healthy, though the team lost receiver Rico Dowdle to the Pittsburgh Steelers in free agency. Wide receiver Xavier Legette and the receiving corps have had a full offseason to develop chemistry with Young under Canales’ system.
Oddsmakers have established Carolina’s win total at 7.5 games, with Young’s performance serving as the decisive factor in the team’s success. The quarterback’s touchdown pass line sits at 20.5, and analysts project he can exceed that total if he maintains consistency with his receivers and averages at least one touchdown per game over the season.
