Seahawks Lock Up All-Pro CB Witherspoon With Four-Year, $132 Million Extension

The Seattle Seahawks and All-Pro cornerback Devon Witherspoon have reached agreement on a four-year contract extension worth $132 million, including $101 million in guaranteed money, according to a person briefed on the negotiations who spoke to The Associated Press on Saturday. The deal remains pending finalization but would establish Witherspoon as the highest-compensated cornerback in professional football.

The Seahawks announced the extension on the same date they exercised Witherspoon’s fifth-year option and opened preseason play against the Dallas Cowboys on March 26. The 25-year-old defensive back was originally selected fifth overall by Seattle in the 2023 draft, the same round that produced wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who inked a four-year, $168.8 million deal with $120 million guaranteed in March.

Witherspoon has established himself as a cornerstone defensive piece during his three seasons with the franchise. He earned Pro Bowl selection in each of his three years and was named All-Pro second-team while playing a pivotal role in Seattle’s Super Bowl championship last season, including appearing in all three playoff contests with 17 tackles and four passes defended.

Over 43 regular-season games, Witherspoon has accumulated 249 tackles, 32 passes defended, 16 tackles for loss, 4½ sacks and two interceptions in a Seahawks uniform.
