Jessica Bang, an 18-year-old professional golfer, died on August 13 after collapsing from a brain hemorrhage during competition at the KLPGA Tour’s International Qualifying Tournament in Thailand on August 1. She underwent emergency brain surgery at Synphaet Ramintra Hospital in Bangkok and was placed on life support before succumbing to her injuries at 7:20 a.m. local time.
Bang’s family announced her death through a GoFundMe campaign, expressing their grief while pledging to honor her legacy. “We are truly heartbroken by this news. However, we would like to continue to remember Jessica and celebrate her achievements, passion, and dedication to golf,” her cousins wrote on the fundraising page, which will direct proceeds toward her medical expenses.
Born in South Korea, Bang demonstrated exceptional talent on the professional circuit despite her youth. She secured victory in her fifth professional tournament last November at the 2026 Ford Women’s NSW Open Regional Qualifying Event in Moss Vale, winning by five strokes and establishing a course record, and previously claimed the Queensland Amateur title.
The WPGA Tour of Australasia released a statement mourning her loss, saying the thoughts and prayers of the tour and the broader Australian golf community remain with Bang’s family, friends, and associates during this difficult period.
