Carrington Faces Scrutiny After Multiple Face Contact Incidents in Four Days

Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington faces renewed questions about her on-court conduct after making contact with three separate opponents’ faces over a four-day span. The scrutiny intensified following a hard foul on Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham that resulted in a bloody mouth and a Flagrant 2 ejection last week.

During Chicago’s 91-71 loss to the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday, Carrington made contact with two Golden State players while defending. She caught forward Cecilia Zandalasini in the eye while attempting to swipe at the ball, and later struck guard Tiffany Hayes in the mouth during a layup attempt. Neither play resulted in flagrant or technical fouls, though Carrington did receive a technical for arguing with a referee in the third quarter.

Following the Cunningham incident, Carrington posted “WHITE PRIVILEGE” on Instagram Threads, suggesting the ejection decision was influenced by race. She later clarified on social media that she was not claiming the foul assessment itself constituted white privilege, stating she attended Stanford University and later Baylor to study the subject with proper context.

In a June 2025 social media post, Carrington wrote that critics mischaracterize her playing style. “I jus play hard asf & never give up on a play,” she stated, noting that some flagrants had been rescinded upon challenge. The WNBA has not issued public comment on any of the incidents.

Cunningham appeared off the bench for Chicago against Golden State on Wednesday, recording three points on 1-for-9 shooting in 24 minutes.
