Marshawn Lynch, the iconic former running back who helped build the Seattle Seahawks into a championship contender, stopped by the defending Super Bowl champions’ training camp recently to observe practice at Lumen Field. During his visit, the franchise legend engaged in an unusual exchange that would later air on HBO’s Hard Knocks, questioning the team’s recent additions at the defensive back position.

Lynch approached strong safety Julian Love and posed a direct inquiry about the roster: “Why y’all keep on getting all these White DBs?” The Seahawks currently have two white defensive backs on their roster—Ty Okada, who started 11 games last season and is positioning himself for another starting role in his fourth year in the league, and Maxen Hook, who is competing for a roster spot during training camp.

When Okada, who has Japanese heritage alongside his white ancestry, stood nearby during the exchange, Lynch turned his questions toward him. “How many of y’all is it?” Lynch asked, proceeding to inquire about the ability of white players to perform the athletic demands required at the defensive back position, specifically referencing footwork and agility traditionally associated with dancing.

Okada demonstrated his athleticism and rhythm to Lynch, who responded with apparent satisfaction. “Oh, yeah, there you go,” Lynch said. “Hey, you know what?
