The Indiana Fever took command in their matchup against the New York Liberty on Tuesday night, with guards Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark leading a dominant offensive display that resulted in a 106-92 victory. The win marked the Fever’s seventh triumph in their last nine contests and secured the top spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
Mitchell’s performance proved especially explosive during the opening half, when she poured in 20 of her final 28 points while connecting on 11 of 16 field-goal attempts. Clark complemented her backcourt partner’s effort by finishing with 22 points alongside 10 assists, while forward Sophie Cunningham contributed 12 points and center Aliyah Boston added 19 points and seven rebounds to the winning cause.
Mitchell, Clark, and Cunningham each made four 3-pointers in the contest. A third-quarter surge by the Liberty briefly threatened the Fever’s advantage, trimming the deficit to 66-57 with just over six minutes remaining in the period before Indiana responded decisively with key plays from Mitchell and Cunningham to extend their lead to 87-67.
For the Liberty, forward Breanna Stewart and guard Sabrina Ionescu each registered 19 points, while forward Jonquel Jones chipped in 14 points and 10 rebounds in the losing effort.
Prior to the game, Fever coach Stephanie White addressed controversy surrounding her reaction to a flagrant foul committed by Liberty defender DiJonai Carrington on Cunningham, delivering an impassioned defense of her team and the league. “The hate, the fearmongering, the divisiveness that’s trying to hijack our league will not win,” White said forcefully. “We are united. We are connected. We will not be divided.” White declined to answer follow-up questions after her statement.
