Authorities in Miami Beach arrested a 21-year-old man following a Sunday morning incident involving two vehicles engaged in high-speed pursuit and intentional collisions in the North Beach neighborhood. Officers responded to reports near North Bay Road and West 58th Street, close to the La Gorche Country Club, at approximately 7:50 a.m., according to police records. The vehicle operators had been “traveling at a high rate of speed and intentionally striking one another,” according to documentation filed by responding officers.
Rayko Rodriguez of Hialeah was operating an Infiniti that struck a Nissan Altima and subsequently hit a man who exited the second vehicle to confront him, police stated. One occupant of the Nissan was identified as Rodriguez’s ex-girlfriend, described in reports as a juvenile. A passenger in the Nissan provided officers with video evidence showing Rodriguez “intentionally ramming the victim’s vehicle” before accelerating forward and striking the male pedestrian with his front bumper and hood.
The impact knocked the man to the ground, causing a left shoulder injury, and he fled back to the Nissan fearing for his safety, according to the arrest report. All victims knew Rodriguez, police said, and reported that he subsequently left the scene. With assistance from Hialeah police, Miami Beach detectives apprehended Rodriguez shortly after 1:40 p.m. near East 20th Street in Hialeah.
Rodriguez was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center near Doral before 5:50 p.m. Sunday, inmate records show. He faced three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and criminal mischief valued at $1,000 or more, with his bond set at $13,500.
