Actor David DeLuise shared a photograph Thursday on Instagram showing himself with a visibly slimmer John Goodman, 74, following an unexpected encounter between the two at a grocery store. DeLuise, best known for his role as Jerry Russo on Disney Channel’s “Wizards of Waverly Place,” captioned the image with warm sentiments about the veteran performer. “He was my childhood!! Legend!” he wrote, noting his appreciation for being able to express such admiration to someone he grew up watching.

Goodman’s latest public appearance underscores years of sustained lifestyle modifications that have resulted in significant weight reduction. The “Roseanne” star has previously disclosed that his weight once approached 400 pounds and that he had cycled through unsuccessful weight-loss attempts for much of his life. In 2010, he announced he had shed more than 100 pounds through dietary changes and exercise commitment, training six days weekly.

Speaking to ABC News in 2016, Goodman attributed much of his success to eliminating habitual snacking and problematic eating patterns. “I just stopped eating all the time,” he explained, adding that he had historically used cycles of weight loss followed by relapses into previous behaviors. His physical training regimen has included boxing and daily walking routines, which he described to Rolling Stone in 2023 as engaging and beneficial.

Goodman ceased alcohol consumption in 2007 after struggling with abuse for years, citing a desire to “live life better” as his motivation. His longtime trainer, Mackie Shilstone, has indicated that the actor maintained a consistent exercise schedule alongside a Mediterranean-style diet, contributing to his sustained transformation.
