A coalition of 13 local businesses and nonprofits gathered in Palmetto Bay on Sunday to ease the financial burden families face when preparing children for the new school year. The collaborative event provided students in grades kindergarten through 12 with complimentary backpacks, school supplies, hygiene kits, and other necessities at no cost to attendees.
The Cut Stop barbershop at 9853 E Fern St. served as the event’s venue, where participants received services beyond basic supplies. Free haircuts and hair braiding were available, along with sports physicals, counseling vouchers, eyebrow services, and additional community resources designed to help students enter the classroom prepared.
Organizers emphasized that the initiative aimed to boost student confidence and readiness as the academic year begins. The effort proved especially meaningful for families connected to LSF Miami Bridge Youth & Family Services, an organization operating emergency shelters for children experiencing trauma or housing instability, circumstances that can complicate the transition back to school.
