Scott Eastwood Recalls Father Clint’s Firm Response to Kevin Costner’s On-Set Behavior

During an appearance on the “Armchair Expert” podcast, actor Scott Eastwood, 40, disclosed details about a memorable incident involving his father, legendary director Clint Eastwood, and fellow actor Kevin Costner on a film set. Eastwood described how his father commanded widespread respect among crew and cast members and maintained composure without raising his voice, even in challenging circumstances.

The younger Eastwood recounted what he called a “legendary story” from the production of “A Perfect World,” in which Costner allegedly remained in his trailer and refused to come out for scheduled filming. According to Scott’s account, Clint Eastwood—who both directed and starred in the 1993 film—responded with a decisive directive to send Costner home for the day, despite the actor’s objections about being scheduled for an upcoming scene.

Costner initially protested the dismissal, questioning whether he was indeed in the scene. Scott Eastwood explained that production proceeded without the actor after Clint made the decision to rewrite that day’s schedule. The actor noted that Costner returned to set the following day ready to work.

In previous interviews, Scott Eastwood has discussed how his father’s approach to parenting and filmmaking shaped his own professional conduct. He emphasized that Clint deliberately shielded him and his siblings from the negative aspects of child stardom while raising them in Carmel, California, rather than Los Angeles, to provide as normal an upbringing as possible.
