Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister released body camera footage from July 29 documenting the arrest of a 28-year-old Canadian woman who allegedly provided false identification during a routine traffic stop in Tampa. Deputies had stopped the vehicle for non-functioning taillights and tag lights when the driver initially claimed to be named “Brianna Valenzuela,” then contradicted herself regarding possession of a valid driver’s license.
The suspect, identified as Bryce Swanson, told officers she was visiting Florida from New York and had never held a valid driver’s license. When questioned about lacking any New York identification despite claiming residence there, Swanson’s account began to unravel, prompting deputies to search the vehicle.
The search uncovered 12 fraudulent driver’s licenses bearing Swanson’s photograph but featuring different names and dates of birth. Video from the bodycam captured one deputy stating “All these are fake” before placing Swanson under arrest.
Swanson, a Canadian national who overstayed her visa, was booked into Orient Road Jail and charged with driving without a valid driver’s license and providing a false name to law enforcement. She remains in custody without bond pending an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer.
