Professional wrestler Brie Bella disclosed Monday that a broken scapula sustained during weekend action at SummerSlam will force her into an extended hiatus. The injury occurred while she competed in a six-woman tag team bout, with Bella sharing details of her recovery plans via social media to a supportive fanbase.
Bella wrote on Instagram that she read messages of encouragement while receiving hospital treatment. She credited adrenaline, her passion for wrestling and camaraderie with her competitors for enabling her to complete the match despite the fractured bone, noting that her family—including her husband and children—had committed to assisting her rehabilitation.
The injury transpired when opponent Jacy Jayne delivered a running senton while Bella was positioned near the steel steps. Observers noted Bella clutching her shoulder immediately after the impact and favoring the injured area throughout the remainder of the contest alongside her sister Nikki Bella and tag partner Paige.
WWE Chief Content Officer Paul Levesque informed media representatives that the injury appeared severe, though definitive details remained pending hospital imaging results. Levesque stated he lacked complete information but acknowledged the shoulder trauma seemed significant in nature.
Jayne’s team defeated the Bella-Paige alliance after recording a pinfall victory over Paige. Bella’s return to WWE occurred at January’s Royal Rumble, followed by a tag team championship victory with Paige before complications forced adjustments to her WrestleMania scheduling.
