Students across South Florida will return to classrooms at staggered dates throughout August 2026. Broward County Public Schools begins instruction on Aug. 10, followed by the Archdiocese of Miami Catholic Schools on Aug. 11 and Miami-Dade County Public Schools on Aug. 13. Parents and students have until Aug. 20 to take advantage of Florida’s back-to-school sales tax exemption on qualifying purchases.
Major retailers are offering significant discounts on essential classroom supplies as families prepare for the new academic year. Target is selling a 12-pack of Mondo Llama colored pencils for 50 cents, while Office Depot offers a 24-pack of Crayola crayons at the same price. Staples has composition notebooks priced at 50 cents each, and Walmart features Elmer’s Disappearing Purple School Glue Sticks for 50 cents per pack.
Writing instruments and notebooks are available at competitive prices across retailers. Target offers a 10-pack of BIC Round Stic Xtra Life Ballpoint Pens for 99 cents, while Office Depot stocks Westcott Hard-Handle kids scissors in a 2-pack for $1.39. Walmart carries a 24-pack of BIC Xtra Sparkle Mechanical Pencils for $4.47 and an 8-pack of Paper Mate Profile Retractable Ballpoint pens for $4.87.
Apparel and additional supplies round out the promotional offerings. Old Navy is selling school uniform jersey polo shirts for boys and girls at $6 each, while Amazon provides a six-pack of Oxford Spiral Notebooks for $7.64.
