Levi Wyatt, a defensive back who played college football for Jackson State and McNeese State, was killed in a single-vehicle accident in Mississippi early Saturday. The 23-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Hinds County coroner.
Jackson State’s football program confirmed the death Saturday and released a statement honoring the former cornerback. The university noted that Wyatt had been selected as a 2024 Preseason All-Southland Conference Second Team honoree before joining the Tigers, and recorded 12 tackles and four pass breakups during the 2025 season.
Officers from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety responded to a crash report in Jackson shortly after midnight local time, where they discovered two damaged vehicles at the scene. A Chevrolet Camaro had struck a utility pole, according to officials. The Mississippi Highway Patrol launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Jackson State’s athletic department asked the Tiger Nation community to support Wyatt’s family during the aftermath of his death, emphasizing the lasting bonds formed through the football program.
