Miami-Dade Man Arrested After Hit-and-Run Leaves Woman Critically Injured

Authorities in Miami-Dade arrested a man Sunday morning following a hit-and-run collision that left a woman with life-threatening injuries on Lincoln Drive in southwest Miami-Dade. The suspect, identified as Tomas Raymundo Brito, 31, allegedly struck the victim and her vehicle before abandoning the scene without rendering aid or calling emergency services.

The incident occurred when the woman exited her vehicle near Southwest 154th Avenue to access her driveway gate. As she walked alongside her car, Brito’s pickup truck collided with the rear of her vehicle, causing it to rotate approximately 180 degrees and strike her to the ground. The truck then ran over the woman, trapping her underneath the vehicle, according to investigators.

A witness observed Brito fleeing eastbound on Lincoln Drive and followed him to a shed at 15278 Lincoln Drive, where he was located and taken into custody by Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies without incident. The victim was transported to Jackson South Hospital, where she remains on life support with injuries classified as life-threatening.

During questioning, Brito acknowledged consuming approximately five beers prior to the crash and confirmed he was the sole occupant of the truck. He also disclosed to investigators that he is from Guatemala and is unlawfully present in the United States, with no valid Florida driver’s license on record.

Brito was transported to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center after receiving medical clearance at Jackson South Medical Center. He faces charges including leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury and driving without a valid license while unlawfully present in the United States. Immigration authorities have placed a hold on the suspect.
