Volunteers, first responders and costumed superheroes accompanied children through an Old Navy store in Oakwood Plaza in Hollywood on Sunday morning as part of a coordinated back-to-school shopping initiative. The companions helped youngsters select essential items including jeans, shirts, shoes and other necessities to prepare for the upcoming academic year.
Each child participating in the event received a fully stocked backpack containing school supplies, equipping them with materials needed to begin classes ready and prepared. The initiative aimed to make the shopping experience meaningful and celebratory for the young attendees.
Voices for Children of Broward County, a nonprofit organization serving youth who have faced abuse, neglect and abandonment, organized the event as part of its 15th anniversary commemoration. According to the organization, the program represents an extension of its broader mission to guarantee that all children and young adults in Broward County who have endured trauma have access to vital resources, educational support and comprehensive services designed to foster long-term stability and improved outcomes.
