‘I just want to hold him’: Mother mourns after deadly Davie crash

The mother of one of the victims killed in a fiery crash in Davie is speaking out about her son’s life and memory as police continue to investigate what caused the crash.Deborah Singleton said her 33-year-old son, Marcel Carter, was killed Thursday morning when the car he was riding in crashed into a utility pole and burst into flames.“I just don’t know what to do, and I can’t see my son,” Singleton said. “They won’t let me see my son. And I just have to wait.”Carter, a father of six young children, was in the passenger seat of the car, according to his mother.“I just want to hold him,” Singleton said. “That’s all I want to do is hold my son. And tell him how much I love him.”The crash happened around 4:45 a.m. Thursday in the 6500 block of Nova Drive. Witnesses said the car was a white Corvette.Singleton said her son was close to home when the crash happened.“He was right there at his house,” she said.Police say the investigation is ongoing, leaving Singleton with questions about what happened.“I have so many questions because there’s so many different stories that’s going on, you know, and people are speculating and they don’t know what happened,” she said.The other victim has been identified as Brandon Kleinberg.As Singleton waits for answers, she is also preparing to bury her son.“If anybody would like to donate to help us bury our son, I would appreciate more than anything,” she said.Singleton said the loss was unexpected and reminded her of how fragile life can be.A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family with funeral expenses.
