Man says he was supposed to be working with father killed by Amazon cargo plane crash

Duviel Alemán said he was supposed to be working with his father, Rolando Alemán León, on the day a Boeing 767-300 cargo plane overran a runway and struck a work van at Miami International Airport. Rolando Alemán, 55, was born in the town of Cruces, in Cuba’s Cienfuegos province. Father and son were working for Professional Ocean Service Corp, a company that cleans planes at MIA. “We arrived in this country 10 years ago,” Duviel Alemán, 32, said in Spanish. On Sept. 6, the Boeing 767-300 cargo plane struck the white 2012 Ford E-150 Econoline work van that Rolando Alemán was traveling in.Attorney Judd Rosen said Duviel Alemán is suing the plane’s owners, Amazon, the related Amazon companies, and anyone associated with the leasing. “Their hearts have been broken,” Rosen said about the Alemán family. Duviel Alemán was supposed to be in the van, but he was having a medical emergency. “Duviel has experienced and will always experience what’s known as survivors’ guilt,” Rosen said.”The jet also struck Julio Pineda, Yoel Rodriguez, Carlos Acosta, Javierkys Reyes, Roosevelt Perdomo, and Ridoel Averhoff. Pineda, 75; Rodriguez, 53; Acosta, 53; and Reyes, 47, died while working for Professional Ocean Service Corp., Perdomo, 36, and Averhoff, 32, were injured. The jet also struck Eugenio Corredor, who was driving a Toyota Corolla Cross SUV on Northwest 67th Avenue outside of MIA. Corredor, 79, was also injured. Joseph Carroll and Jaime Silva, the pilot and the co-pilot of the Boeing 767-300 operated by 21 Air for Amazon, suffered minor injuries. Carroll, 55, and Silva, 37, were released from the hospital to face federal and local scrutiny over the crash. Perdomo, Averhoff, and Corredor were at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
