A large stretch of undeveloped land in Miramar is getting a major makeover in the form of a new paved road connecting U.S. 27 with Pembroke Road.Miramar city commissioners discussed the Pembroke Road Expansion Project Wednesday night during the regular City Commission meeting. The meeting included a necessary step to approve a construction agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation, which owns the right of way along U.S. 27.The assistant city manager said plans are anticipated in the first quarter of 2027.Pembroke Road stretches for miles from U.S. 1 on the east side of Broward County until it dead-ends along a field a couple of miles short of the Everglades. The plan calls for widening Pembroke Road into a four-lane divided road. It also includes extending Miramar Parkway to the south, shifting it to a two-lane undivided street from Southwest 192nd Terrace to Pembroke Road. The project was approved unanimously.Construction could cause some temporary traffic headaches, but the project could also cut travel time by as much as a third for people traveling along Pembroke Road to and from busy U.S. 27.
