Miami Beach officers honored for helping save man in crisis

Miami Beach police officers are being honored after helping a man experiencing a crisis.The incident occurred at a shopping plaza near Fifth Street and Lenox Avenue on Aug. 23. Police body camera video shows a man standing on a ledge, pacing back and forth while on a cellphone. The man told officers he had never been arrested before or had a speeding ticket.Negotiations with officers lasted about four hours before they had a window to pull him from the edge of the building. Miami Beach Police Department Chief Wayne Jones praised the officers for their actions.“Our negotiators demonstrated extraordinary patience, compassion and professionalism,” said Jones. “They refused to give up on this individual, and because of their actions, he was brought to safety unharmed.” Jones added that specialized training helped the officers put an end to the crisis, and that no one was injured.
