Broward elementary school assistant principal arrested, reassigned after ‘domestic disturbance’

A Broward County elementary school administrator was arrested Sunday by the Broward Sheriff’s Office and is being reassigned from the school following an off-campus incident, according to Broward County Public Schools.Leer en españolMarc Horowitz, 53, of Weston, faces charges of robbery without a firearm or weapon and touch or strike battery.According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to Horowitz’s home near the 16000 block of Southwest Fifth Way in Weston at about 11:58 p.m. Friday in reference to a “disturbance.”“On scene, deputies learned an adult male, identified as Marc S. Horowitz, was involved in a domestic disturbance where he physically assaulted an adult individual and snatched the person’s phone,” a BSO spokesperson told Local 10 News in an email Monday. Local 10 learned Monday that the victim is Horowitz’s wife and the two have children together.According to an arrest report, the victim told deputies that she and Horowitz had been drinking alcoholic beverages Friday night before arriving home and getting into an argument.She said at some point Horowitz snatched her phone from her hand, the report stated.According to the report, Horowitz left the home, but returned and asked the victim for the remote control.Deputies said when she was unable to locate it, Horowitz pushed her to the floor with both of his hands on her chest, causing her to fall on her left side.A spokesperson for Broward County Public Schools said Horowitz is an assistant principal at Orange Brook Elementary School in Hollywood. The district said he is being reassigned from the school following the incident, pending further Human Resources review and action, which may include termination.On the Orange Brook Elementary School website, Horowitz is listed as an administrator, specifically the “intern principal.”“For something like that to happen, it’s kind of devastating. That’s the way I look at it, especially when you work with young kids,” Jacquelin Peterson, whose child attends the elementary school, said.“For me, specifically, it would have to be if there was violence involved, I don’t think that should be around our kids,” another parent, Ashley Acevedo, said.James Johnson, whose child also attends the school said he doesn’t believe Horowitz is a “bad guy.” ”Anything can trigger someone, but I don’t think he’s a bad guy,” Johnson said.The school administer was granted a $3,000 bond and had nothing to say after posting bond and leaving the jail Monday evening.
