Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Edgardo Henriquez recorded the fastest strikeout pitch in franchise history Saturday when he fired a 103.6 mph sinker past Detroit Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler in the eighth inning. The fastball caught the edge of the strike zone for a called third strike, with Statcast measuring the pitch at 2,439 rpm.
The 24-year-old right-hander’s record-setting delivery surpassed all previous Dodgers strikeout pitches tracked since 2008, according to MLB data. Henriquez matched his career high with the pitch, having previously achieved the same velocity on June 2 against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Henriquez has already established himself as one of baseball’s premier high-velocity pitchers, accounting for 14 of the Dodgers’ 16 fastest recorded strikeout pitches and 22 of the team’s fastest pitches overall. Baseball Savant data shows his average sinker velocity sits at 100.8 mph this season, with his four-seam fastball averaging 100.5 mph.
The pitcher’s dominance comes despite the Dodgers falling to the Tigers 2-1 in Saturday’s contest. Henriquez’s previous record-breaking moment occurred last August when he matched Jonathan Broxton’s Dodgers-era tracking record with a 103.3 mph four-seam fastball, a mark he has now eclipsed.
