A man was fatally shot in Fort Lauderdale during the early morning hours Saturday, prompting law enforcement to launch a full-scale homicide investigation. Officers received a ShotSpotter notification at approximately 1:51 a.m. in the 1600 block of Northwest Eighth Avenue and rushed to the location to find the victim.
First responders immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation upon arrival at the scene. Officers continued life-saving efforts until personnel from Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue arrived and assumed care of the victim, who was subsequently transported to Broward Health Medical Center.
The victim was declared deceased at the hospital. Detectives from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s Homicide Unit took command of the investigation and secured the shooting scene for extensive forensic examination.
Investigators cordoned off the area for several hours Saturday morning while crime scene technicians processed evidence and conducted witness interviews with nearby residents. The incident occurred in a location north of Sunrise Boulevard and east of Interstate 95, but authorities have withheld the victim’s identity and circumstances of the shooting.
