Jesus Acosta, 31, was apprehended Friday morning by law enforcement following an intensive manhunt backed by federal authorities, according to police statements. The FBI had announced a $25,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s capture as part of the coordinated search effort.

Acosta faced allegations stemming from two separate fatal shootings that occurred over a 48-hour period across New York City boroughs. The first incident took place early Tuesday at 149 Grill & Deli located at 143 E. 149th St. in the Bronx, where a gunman opened fire on a 33-year-old customer at approximately 12:16 a.m., striking him multiple times in the chest before robbing the register.

The victim, identified as Tayvon Shuler through a fundraiser created by his sister, was transported to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition but subsequently succumbed to his injuries. His sister, Tanasha Neal, confirmed his death occurred on August 25 in a public Facebook post.

A second shooting erupted shortly after midnight Sunday at American Best Wings & Pizza located at 842 Rockaway Ave. in Brownsville, Brooklyn. Police discovered a 44-year-old man shot in the head and a 39-year-old man sustaining a leg wound at the scene.

The 44-year-old victim was pronounced dead at a hospital, while the surviving victim remained in stable condition. A GoFundMe campaign identified the deceased as MD Yousuf, described as a dedicated family man and sole breadwinner with two children and relatives dependent on his income.

Prior to his arrest, authorities circulated surveillance imagery identifying Acosta as standing approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing around 175 pounds, with short brown hair and brown eyes. Police noted distinctive tattoos including “Bronx” on his hand and “Bobby” on his left forearm.

State prison records revealed that Acosta had been released on parole in April following a 10-year sentence for assault and criminal weapon possession. United Bodegas of America criticized the justice system in a statement, noting the suspect had accumulated 13 prior arrests before his release.

The bodega advocacy group called for enhanced penalties, bodega panic buttons, and expedited gun permits for business owners. The NYPD had not disclosed additional details regarding arrest location or specific charges as of Saturday.
