Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested British national Milo Yiannopoulos at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Kenner, Louisiana, leading to his deportation to the United Kingdom the following day, according to the Department of Homeland Security. The former Breitbart News editor was held in ICE custody at a detention facility in Alexandria, Louisiana, a central hub for the agency’s removal operations, before being removed from the country.

DHS stated that Yiannopoulos legally entered the United States through New York City on May 14, 2019, but remained in the country after his authorized stay expired. An immigration judge issued a final removal order on July 22 after Yiannopoulos failed to appear for his scheduled immigration hearing, the agency said.

The Trump administration used the deportation case to announce a policy reversal, stating it would no longer permit individuals in the country illegally to fly domestically unless they were departing the United States. DHS said the previous administration’s policies had allowed such travel and pledged stricter enforcement going forward.

The agency is encouraging voluntary departures through the CBP Home app, offering $3,000 and free airfare to those who leave willingly and said such cooperation could preserve future legal reentry eligibility. DHS warned that those who refuse voluntary departure will face arrest and deportation without the option to return legally.
