A violent confrontation between feuding families at a Westlake, Ohio wedding celebration on August 21 left multiple guests injured and prompted a significant law enforcement response involving officers from several jurisdictions. Three men were taken into custody following the incident at the La Centre Banquet Facility, with charges ranging from assault to aggravated menacing.

Raed Mahmoud Sulaiman, 46, of Dearborn Heights, Michigan, faces assault, inducing panic and tampering with evidence charges after authorities allege he threatened attendees with a butter knife and disposed of the weapon upon police arrival. Ali Wahdan, 47, was charged with violating a temporary protection order, while Abdallah Wahdan, 48, of Westlake, was accused of aggravated menacing for allegedly making threats toward other guests.

Emergency dispatch recordings and law enforcement body-camera footage documented the melee, which began inside the banquet hall and spilled into the parking lot. The facility’s general manager reported multiple people fighting and noted that at least one guest had sustained a head injury serious enough to require bathroom refuge as the altercation continued.

Officers arrived to find a crowded parking lot filled with wedding attendees, prompting Westlake police to request backup from neighboring departments. Body-camera video showed officers separating groups and moving through the throng of guests as they attempted to restore order at the scene.

According to police, the underlying cause was a years-old family dispute rather than alcohol-related behavior. Investigators determined that Ali Wahdan was subject to a temporary protection order that required his departure upon encountering certain family members at the event, but he remained at the venue instead.

Despite the chaos and injuries, the wedding reception resumed after officers restored control of the situation. All three suspects were charged in Rocky River Municipal Court.
