Two former professional athletes have credited Fox News host Sean Hannity with inspiring their recent pivots into electoral politics. During an appearance on Hannity’s podcast, ex-NFL kicker Jay Feely and former baseball star Mark Teixeira both acknowledged that their exposure through the media personality’s show played a decisive role in prompting them to seek congressional office as Republicans.
Feely, who spent over a decade in the NFL with the New York Giants and New York Jets, is now running to represent Arizona’s first congressional district. Teixeira, a 14-year Major League Baseball veteran who won a World Series championship with the New York Yankees in 2009, is pursuing a seat representing Texas’ 21st congressional district. Both attributed their career transitions partly to regular appearances and interactions within Hannity’s professional network.
During the podcast conversation, Feely explained that his initial appearances on Hannity’s “Great American Panel” segment in New York catalyzed serious consideration of a political run. Teixeira similarly noted that watching the show and engaging with people through that platform had influenced his decision-making process.
The episode, available across iHeartRadio, YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts, featured Hannity exploring the unconventional career trajectories that transformed both former athletes into political candidates seeking to apply their competitive backgrounds to legislative service.
