Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner declared Tuesday that he intends to preserve a fragment of the White House ballroom as a desk paperweight following its eventual destruction. Speaking at a historic Philadelphia site, Krasner told the audience that within 10 to 15 years, he would possess the memento from the razed structure, according to video obtained by WCAU.

Krasner’s remarks came during remarks at George Washington’s Philadelphia residence on the occasion of the city’s annual slavery commemoration event. The district attorney characterized Trump as “the embodiment of hate” and “the embodiment of ignorance,” escalating his criticism of the president’s policies regarding historical education and representation.

The comments specifically targeted a Trump executive order titled “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History,” which directed the National Park Service to replace slavery-focused exhibits at the federally owned Washington site with broader U.S. historical displays. Philadelphia lost a protracted legal battle with the federal government over the matter when an appeals court ruled the city lacked authority over the content of exhibits at the federally managed location.

Krasner elaborated that the ballroom demolition would occur “in an official ceremony,” with proceeds from selling salvaged pieces as souvenirs returning money to taxpayers. He also stated that a proposed Kennedy Center renaming would not materialize under his watch.

The White House responded by praising Trump’s “long-overdue and necessary renovations” to enhance the presidential residence ahead of the nation’s 250th anniversary. A spokesperson accused critics of suffering from “Trump Derangement Syndrome” for opposing the beautification project.

The U.S. Secret Service indicated it investigates statements perceived as threats toward protected individuals but declined to elaborate on the matter due to operational security concerns.
