A high-speed joyride in a stolen luxury vehicle ended in a fatal collision that claimed the lives of two New Jersey residents on August 22, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office. Alice Stilwell Holt, 67, and Robert “Bob” Barr Jr., 54, both of Egg Harbor Township, died when their Hyundai sedan was struck head-on by a 2024 Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon near Route 50 and Third Street in Mays Landing at approximately 7:30 a.m.
Nayshaun Brown, 18, of Atlantic City, and three juvenile suspects allegedly took the luxury SUV without permission around 3:40 a.m. that Saturday morning. Officers began pursuing the stolen vehicle in nearby Longport after it sped past a local police officer attempting to stop it, prosecutors said. Hamilton Township police later engaged in a chase around 7:45 a.m., but lost visual contact with the G-Wagon minutes before the devastating collision occurred.
Surveillance footage documented the impact as the black SUV struck the sedan with significant force, pushing the smaller vehicle into a nearby gas station. The four teenagers involved in the theft sustained minor injuries and attempted to flee the scene but were apprehended shortly thereafter by responding authorities. Brown and the three juveniles now face charges including conspiracy involving aggravated assault, joyriding, eluding police, and receiving a stolen motor vehicle.
Brown is additionally charged with employing a juvenile in the commission of a crime and remains held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Two of the three juvenile defendants continue in custody, while a third was released by a Superior Court judge on Sunday morning. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit is requesting additional information from the public at (609) 909-7684.
A GoFundMe campaign established by a family friend described Stilwell Holt as a cherished mother and grandmother whose sudden death has left relatives devastated. According to her obituary, Holt and Barr had been partners for more than 20 years, sharing a life that included cooking, farmers market visits, gardening, and caring for their two cats together.
