Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese etched her name into WNBA history twice during Monday’s 78-71 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks, hauling in 26 rebounds to break the league’s single-game mark and simultaneously surpassing the single-season record in the same contest.
Reese’s 26-rebound performance eclipsed the previous WNBA single-game record of 24, set by Chamique Holdsclaw on May 23, 2003 while playing for Washington. The achievement brought her season total to 458 rebounds, exceeding A’ja Wilson’s 2024 single-season record of 451.
The Dream’s star forward attributed her rebounding dominance to offensive struggles, noting her inability to find the basket created additional opportunities on the glass. “Last time I was here, I didn’t miss any shots. Tonight I couldn’t hit (anything) so I knew I was going be able to get them on the rebounding side,” Reese said on the postgame show.
Reese also recorded her 27th double-double of the season—leading the WNBA—when she scored 11 points with 13.9 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. Dream guard Allisha Gray praised the performance, describing Reese’s rebounding prowess as exceptional talent on display.
A three-time WNBA All-Star, Reese established a rookie rebounding average of 13.1 per game during her inaugural 2024 season with Chicago and holds the all-time league record with 15 consecutive double-doubles. She currently leads the league in rebounding this season at 12.0 per game.
