A devastating lightning strike claimed the lives of a 31-year-old woman and her toddler daughter Sunday afternoon in Margate. The two were struck while standing on a sidewalk near 7900 Northwest 1st Street, according to authorities responding to the scene around 2:30 p.m.
Emergency personnel from Margate Police and Margate Fire Rescue immediately arrived at the location and commenced life-saving measures on both victims, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Kenya Glasgow was transported by Margate Fire Rescue to North Broward Medical Center in Deerfield Beach, while her 2-year-old daughter was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale under police escort.
Despite aggressive medical interventions from first responders and hospital staff, both victims succumbed to their injuries shortly after arrival at their respective medical facilities. Margate Police Department continues investigating the incident and extended sympathies to the family and loved ones affected by the tragedy.
