The New York Liberty defeated the Indiana Fever 109-102 on Saturday night in a matchup with significant consequences for postseason positioning. Breanna Stewart led the Liberty with 22 points, while Leonie Fiebich returned from a foot injury sustained July 3 to contribute 20 points in her first game back. The victory improved New York’s record to 23-15.

Jonquel Jones provided 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Liberty, who held off a late rally from Indiana. The teams were tied at 100 when Stewart converted two free throws to put New York ahead. Fiebich then scored with 57.5 seconds left, and after the Liberty secured a defensive rebound, drew a foul and made both free throws to clinch the win.

Indiana kept pace throughout the contest behind a trio of strong individual performances. Kelsey Mitchell scored 25 points including a 3-pointer with 1:44 remaining that knotted the score, while Aliyah Boston had 22 points and Caitlin Clark added 21 in the loss. The Fever are managing a demanding five-game road trip over eight days, sitting at 2-2 in that stretch.

A decisive third-quarter showing proved pivotal for New York, as Sabrina Ionescu and Fiebich combined for 19 of the Liberty’s 31 third-quarter points to build an 85-78 advantage heading into the final period. The win marked the first time this season the Liberty played with a fully healthy roster, as Jones returned after missing most of Tuesday’s game against Chicago due to an ankle injury.
