A traffic stop in northwest Miami-Dade escalated into a manhunt Friday evening after authorities determined the occupants may be connected to a homicide investigation. Officers with the Miami Police Department initiated the stop shortly before 6 p.m. near Northwest 88th Street and 12th Avenue after identifying the vehicle as part of a previous police case.
When officers attempted to conduct the stop, the driver accelerated away from the scene. Three of the four people inside the vehicle subsequently fled on foot, and police apprehended all three. The fourth occupant remains at large, prompting a broader search operation in the area.
A police helicopter circled the neighborhood for approximately two hours as officers methodically searched the vicinity. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deployed deputies to assist Miami police in locating the missing suspect. Officers eventually cleared the intersection, though the status of the ongoing search remained unclear at the time of reporting.
Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
