The Summer Streets initiative concludes its annual run this weekend with closing-day festivities spanning two boroughs. Residents will have access to reclaimed roadway space along Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn and the Grand Concourse in the Bronx from 9 a.m. through 5 p.m., marking the program’s seasonal finale.
The temporary street closures create car-free zones where pedestrians, cyclists and joggers can move freely through major thoroughfares without vehicular traffic. The program transforms these urban corridors into recreational spaces, allowing the public to participate in various activities and community programming throughout the day.
Summer Streets has become an annual tradition in New York City, demonstrating the potential for alternative uses of major streets. The weekend events represent the last opportunity this season for residents to experience these reimagined public spaces before normal traffic patterns resume.
