Minnesota Democratic gubernatorial front-runner Amy Klobuchar is drawing criticism from Republican rival Lisa Demuth for campaigning aggressively on fraud prevention despite a conspicuous absence of public statements from her Senate office regarding the state’s sprawling social-services crisis. A Fox News Digital review of over 1,000 official press releases from Klobuchar’s office between 2022 and 2025 found no direct mention of either the Feeding Our Future scandal or Minnesota’s broader fraud epidemic, though the office issued multiple statements addressing other fraud-related matters during the same period.
The Feeding Our Future scandal, which emerged in late January 2022, has expanded into a massive social-services fraud investigation that prosecutors estimate could exceed $9 billion in total losses. Despite the magnitude of the crisis, Klobuchar’s Senate office never referenced the scandal, Minnesota fraud, social services fraud, Medicaid fraud, autism fraud, child nutrition fraud, or nonprofit fraud in any of her official communications from January 1, 2022 through the end of 2025.
Demuth, Minnesota’s House Speaker, told Fox News Digital on Friday that Klobuchar’s silence during the scandal’s emergence and subsequent expansion stood out notably. Demuth highlighted that Klobuchar possessed the seniority and institutional power to convene congressional hearings on the matter but did not do so, and pointedly noted that she failed to attend a recent state hearing on Minnesota fraud despite her elevated platform.
Since launching her gubernatorial campaign, Klobuchar has positioned herself as a fraud-fighting reformer, releasing campaign advertisements that promise a comprehensive state audit addressing waste, fraud, and abuse. She has framed her candidacy around delivering results and accountability, contrasting her vision with what she characterizes as failed leadership under outgoing Governor Tim Walz.
Demuth released her own anti-fraud platform this week and argued that Klobuchar’s recent emphasis on the issue rings hollow given her decade-long Senate tenure and especially her relationship with Walz, whom she previously praised as an exceptional governor. Demuth pointed to her own legislative record and her immediate actions upon becoming House Speaker in 2025, including establishment of the Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Committee, as evidence of sustained commitment to combating theft of taxpayer dollars.
Republican candidates across Minnesota’s statewide races have capitalized on voter anger over the fraud scandal as a central campaign theme. Other GOP contenders, including Senate candidate Michele Tafoya, have described voters across the political spectrum as energized to demand change at the state level.
Klobuchar advanced through Minnesota’s primary election and is considered the favorite to replace Walz in November’s general election. The Klobuchar campaign did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment on the criticism.
