Hasan Piker drew intense criticism after performing a mocking rendition of “We Are Charlie Kirk,” an AI-generated meme song, during a stop on his “Fear& LIVE” tour over the weekend. The streamer led his audience in singing lyrics that parodied Kirk, including “We are Charlie Kirk, we carry the flame. We’ll fight for the Gospel, we’ll honor his name,” while his co-hosts laughed alongside him on stage.
The song emerged on September 18, 2025, shortly after Kirk’s assassination in Utah, and takes the form of a Christian power ballad with lyrics such as “He spoke the truth when the cost was high / He lived for Jesus, unafraid to die.” The track has become a widely circulated online meme used to mock Kirk and conservative figures.
Piker co-hosts the weekly comedy and pop culture podcast “Fear&” with three other contributors and regularly streams on Twitch. His live tour began Friday in San Francisco, where footage of the performance was recorded.
The performance prompted immediate condemnation from Kirk’s allies and conservative commentators. Turning Point USA spokesman Andrew Kolvet responded on X by writing, “Hasan Piker is engaging in pure, unadulterated evil,” citing Proverbs 17:5. Washington Free Beacon investigative reporter Chuck Ross called Piker “a trash human being,” noting that the streamer had previously discussed how shaken he was by Kirk’s assassination before subsequently mocking the event on stage.
Kirk, a teenager when he founded the conservative organization Turning Point USA, became known for high-profile debates on college campuses and served as a close ally to President Donald Trump during his 2024 re-election campaign. Kirk had previously engaged in a debate with Piker on socialism.
Piker’s growing influence within Democratic circles has emerged as a significant media story as democratic socialists gain prominence heading into the 2026 election cycle. The streamer has campaigned with several prominent candidates, including Michigan Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed.
Following the performance, Piker posted a photo from the event with the caption “carried the flame tn,” referencing one of the song’s central lyrics. He subsequently reposted criticism directed at his detractors, sharing a comment that read, “The same conservatives crying over Hasan singing a meme song were openly celebrating the murder of American citizens.”
