Detectives from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office conducted a search Thursday at an apartment in the Oak Plaza tower located in Miami’s Allapattah neighborhood as part of an ongoing investigation into internet-based crimes targeting children. The operation led to the arrest of Carlos Gutierrez, a 32-year-old barber, who was taken into custody at 10:40 a.m. at the residence, according to official records.
According to the arrest report filed by MDSO investigators, Gutierrez’s apartment contained images depicting the sexual abuse of minors ranging in age from approximately 4 to 8 years old, involving both male and female children. Gutierrez allegedly created a Google account specifically to access such material for personal gratification and claimed he viewed the images out of curiosity, the report states.
Gutierrez told detectives he obtained access to the illicit images through a WhatsApp chat group and subsequently deleted the material after receiving notification that Google had flagged and suspended his account. He was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 4:05 p.m. the same day and faced six counts of possessing images depicting child sexual abuse.
A bond of $45,000 was set for Gutierrez’s release pending trial. Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Jason Bloch is assigned to oversee the case proceedings.
