Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling will present Northern Rising on October 3 at the Mattamy Athletic Centre at the Gardens in Toronto, marking a significant moment for the professional wrestling community. The event carries considerable weight as a Canadian wrestling promotion returns to a historic venue where the National Wrestling Alliance once staged major cards.
For AEW performer Adam Copeland, the appearance represents a long-awaited full-circle achievement. The Toronto native first witnessed professional wrestling live at Maple Leaf Gardens as a child, an experience that inspired his decision to pursue the sport. That formative moment proved transformative, providing him escape and solace during difficult personal times.
Copeland explained to OutKick that watching wrestling at the venue ignited his ambition to compete professionally. He noted that Maple Leaf Gardens held particular significance in his childhood, as the arena dominated his world through both wrestling programming and Toronto Maple Leafs broadcasts. Though he attended numerous wrestling shows there over the years, an opportunity to perform at the venue eluded him during his WWE career, when the company shifted Toronto events to larger facilities.
The chance to compete at Maple Leaf Gardens arrived through longtime industry connection Scott D’Amore, owner of Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling. Copeland and D’Amore began their careers simultaneously and maintained their relationship through the years. The appearance will mark Copeland’s first independent wrestling show in an extended period.
Northern Rising has already sold out, according to organizers. Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling presents weekly “Mayhem” programming broadcast on TSN.
