Rep. Jared Moskowitz forcefully disputed Republican Sen. Rick Scott’s characterization of his relationship with the Democratic Party’s progressive wing during a Thursday appearance on “Fox & Friends.” Moskowitz dismissed Scott’s claims as baseless, asserting that neither constituents in his district nor prominent figures on the left view him as aligned with contentious figures or movements within Democratic politics.
Scott, speaking Monday on “Varney & Co.,” had argued that any Democrat winning the primary would ultimately vote according to the preferences of online personality Hasan Piker. The senator contended that Democratic candidates uniformly embrace socialist platform positions because they fear the party’s left flank, though he predicted Moskowitz would prevail in the primary race.
Moskowitz has positioned himself as a centrist within his party, consistently voicing staunch support for Israel and publicly criticizing progressive Democrats and their agenda. Following his victory over Democratic Socialists of America-backed candidate Oliver Larkin, he posted mocking remarks toward Piker on social media, prompting a sharp response from the streamer regarding his focus on Israel policy.
The congressman has characterized the DSA platform as fundamentally “anti-American” while simultaneously acknowledging legitimate economic concerns within the Democratic electorate. He called for party leadership to more forcefully oppose socialist-aligned candidates and their platform, while recognizing the need to address widespread financial hardship facing American families.
