April Hutchinson, a Canadian powerlifting champion, organized the seventh Sophie Cunningham rally on Tuesday evening in Toronto, marking the first demonstration of its kind to occur outside the United States. Supporters gathered outside Scotiabank Arena before the Indiana Fever defeated the Toronto Tempo, many wearing XX-XY Athletics apparel in solidarity with Cunningham’s stance on women’s sports.

A minor confrontation occurred when approximately five counter-protesters wearing pro-transgender messaging engaged with Cunningham’s supporters. Hutchinson reported to Fox News Digital that the opposing group objected to the rally’s signage, though she credited Toronto police with coordinating advance safety measures for the event.

Tensions escalated later when police issued citations for a mobile billboard operated by Rebel News that displayed Cunningham’s image and statements from tennis legend Martina Navratilova regarding fairness in women’s sports. The charges cited violations of Toronto Municipal By-law 693-14, Section 12, regarding animated or illuminated displays. Rebel News indicated it would pursue legal action against the citations.

During the game, Cunningham performed effectively, shooting 3-for-3 from three-point range and scoring 13 points overall. Despite her performance, portions of the crowd booed her, reflecting the divisive nature of her public advocacy for protecting women’s sports from transgender participation.

Cunningham responded graciously to the mixed reception, commending the arena crowd’s passion and enthusiasm. She emphasized that such varied reactions represent the essence of competitive sports. Additional “Sophie Nights” rallies are scheduled for games in Dallas against the Wings and in New York against the Liberty.
