The Ukrainian boxing legend, 50, took to social media to express his profound sorrow following the death of Panettiere, 36, describing her as an integral part of his life despite their separation. Klitschko emphasized that no amount of time could diminish the significance of their shared history or her role within their family unit.
In his statement, Klitschko committed to speaking respectfully about Panettiere to their daughter Kaya and ensuring the child maintains a positive understanding of her mother. He acknowledged the couple’s mutual pledge to refrain from disparaging remarks about one another in front of their child, a commitment Panettiere had previously revealed to news outlets.
Panettiere, who died Sunday in South Carolina, transferred full custody of Kaya to Klitschko in 2018, believing at that time she was in an unstable position and concerned about her daughter’s wellbeing. The actress had been forthcoming about her struggles with alcoholism, postpartum depression, and the psychological toll of her early entry into the entertainment industry, documenting these experiences in her 2024 memoir.
Greenville County authorities discovered Panettiere in cardiac arrest, with emergency responders unable to revive her before her death at 2:32 p.m. The preliminary autopsy revealed no indications of trauma, though investigators continue examining the circumstances surrounding her sudden death.
Klitschko also celebrated Panettiere’s professional achievements, acknowledging her talent and the obstacles she navigated within a challenging industry. He extended sympathies to her family members, colleagues, and admirers while requesting privacy for those mourning her loss.
