New Orleans Saints wide receiver Jordyn Tyson’s NFL debut has hit an unexpected setback. The 22-year-old Arizona State product, selected eighth overall in April’s draft, sustained a hamstring injury during last Thursday’s joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars. According to NFL Network, the injury could sideline him for approximately two months.

Saints head coach Kellen Moore indicated the following day that Tyson may miss time extending into the regular season’s opening weeks. If the current prognosis holds, the receiver could potentially miss at least five games. Tyson’s absence would not be resolved until around Week 6, when New Orleans travels to MetLife Stadium to face the New York Giants before heading overseas for an International Games matchup in Paris.

Moore dismissed suggestions that Tyson’s previous hamstring issues at Arizona State were relevant to his current injury. “Any player that was put in his situation where your foot slips and you get shoved from behind, this has nothing to do with Jordyn’s history,” Moore told ESPN. The coach emphasized that Tyson had been practicing consistently and performing well before the incident occurred.

Tyson was brought in to bolster New Orleans’ offensive arsenal alongside quarterback Tyler Shough, who will operate his first full season as the starter. The Saints also locked in star receiver Chris Olave on a contract extension and acquired running back Travis Etienne Jr. on a four-year, $48 million deal. Tyson recorded 61 catches for 711 yards and eight touchdowns across nine games last season at Arizona State.
