Sam Webb’s tenure with the New York Giants lasted just days. The defensive back was placed on the Reserve/Retired List on Sunday, a move that came one day after the Giants suffered a preseason loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Webb signed with New York on Thursday and had attended only one practice session before appearing in Sunday’s preseason contest against Minnesota. He saw limited action, recording 14 snaps in the game before the team decided to move him to the retired list.

The 28-year-old joined the Giants after being released by the Denver Broncos. Webb previously spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders, where he appeared in 17 games during his 2022 debut season and recorded 36 tackles with three pass break-ups. He returned to the Raiders in 2024, playing in 11 games with one tackle.

Webb also spent a 2023 stint with the Carolina Panthers and joined the Cleveland Browns in 2025, where he appeared in seven games, registered eight tackles, and returned a fumble for a touchdown. He attended Missouri Western State before beginning his professional career.

The Giants are seeking secondary improvements after finishing 16th in pass defense last season, allowing approximately 214 passing yards per game. New York also signed Greg Newsome II to bolster its defensive backfield.
