A 4-month-old infant was killed in a single-vehicle collision that occurred Saturday afternoon in Miramar, according to law enforcement officials who confirmed the fatality Monday. The crash took place around 12:30 p.m. in the 2300 block of Southwest 173rd Avenue.

The child’s mother was operating the vehicle at the time of the incident, with a second child also present in the car. Emergency responders airlifted the infant to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, where the baby was pronounced dead. The mother sustained minor injuries and was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood for treatment, while the other child escaped injury.

The Traffic Homicide Investigations Unit of the Miramar Police Department is handling the inquiry into the circumstances of the crash. Authorities have not released additional information regarding the accident or the family involved.
