South Florida Pilots Deliver 3,000 Pounds of Aid to Colombia Following Devastating Earthquake

A South Florida-based aviation team successfully completed a humanitarian mission to Colombia, delivering 3,000 pounds of critical supplies to rescue teams working in the aftermath of a powerful earthquake. The pilots and aircraft owner contributed their resources at no cost, maximizing the cargo capacity for emergency materials destined for the affected region.

A local physician donated the aircraft for the relief operation, while the flight crew volunteered their time. EmbassAir provided additional support through fuel donations totaling 800 gallons and the use of hangar facilities, enabling the mission to proceed efficiently.

Jose Ecarri, representing the Miami Pilots Association, coordinated the effort by connecting organizers with the plane’s Colombian owner. Ecarri, himself a pilot, leveraged his professional network to secure the necessary aircraft for the urgent delivery.

The supplies were specifically directed to Cali for active rescue operations, according to Ender Urdaneta of Help Land Foundation. The cargo prioritized equipment and materials needed for life-saving efforts rather than provisions like food or water.

A 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck Colombia’s western region Monday morning, prompting ongoing search-and-rescue operations for missing persons. Residents in affected neighborhoods expressed deep emotional trauma, describing widespread shock and grief as communities rallied to support one another.

Pope Leo issued a statement five days after the disaster, extending prayers and solidarity to the Colombian population suffering from the earthquake’s devastating impact.
