Jordan Lyle, a 20-year-old running back for the University of Miami, was taken into custody Thursday in Broward County following a felony complaint of aggravated fleeing or eluding law enforcement. According to court documents, Lyle allegedly operated his vehicle “in any manner which demonstrates a wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property” while willfully attempting to evade police.
The arrest interrupts what had been expected to be a pivotal season for the rising junior following Miami’s championship run last year. Head coach Mario Cristobal had praised Lyle’s performance just days before the incident, noting the athlete’s improved physical conditioning and describing him as operating at “full speed” after recovering from injuries sustained in the prior season.
Miami issued a brief statement acknowledging the situation. “We are aware of an incident involving student-athlete Jordan Lyle. As due legal process runs its course, we will have no further comment at this time,” the university said.
Lyle appeared in six games last season while serving as backup to ACC rushing leader Mark Fletcher Jr. An early-season injury limited his production to 35 carries for 108 yards and one touchdown across a truncated campaign. During his freshman year, he demonstrated greater promise, averaging 7.4 yards per carry on 54 rushes for 400 yards and four touchdowns across 12 games.
