The murder trial of Lindsay Clancy came to an abrupt halt Wednesday when she became visibly distressed as medical examiner Dr. Barbara Olson described autopsy findings related to the death of her 5-year-old daughter, Cora. Clancy, 32, wept openly in the courtroom and declared she could not continue, prompting Judge William Sullivan to order an immediate recess and remove the jury from proceedings.
The emotional moment marked the second disruption of the day in the high-profile case. Earlier, Clancy had broken down again when medical examiner Renee Stonebridge provided testimony regarding examination results of her three deceased children, leading the judge to call another break.
Clancy faces first-degree murder charges in the deaths of 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan on January 24, 2023. She does not contest responsibility for the killings but instead argues she was suffering from severe postpartum depression exacerbated by overprescription of medications from five separate physicians.
Two women were observed attempting to comfort Clancy during her courtroom breakdown as court observers and gallery members witnessed the emotional exchange.
